Exploring Dual Identities
2023

The objective of Exploring Dual Identities, is to reach the latinx youth living in Vancouver and encourage them to reflect on what it means to be latinx and Canadian, through a series of art and creative writing workshops.

Through this project, participants will:

Share stories of identity: What does it mean to be Latino-Canadian?
Acquire skills in Painting (and/or Photography) and creative writing to share their story and what it means to be Latinx and Canadian.
Connect with the community through a series of art workshops with the aim of straightening connections with the community.
Present their work in a gallery setting

Self-Love project
April 2021

The self-love art project was self funded. It was geared to women in Vancouver and how they connect with themselves and their journey of self love. It was a year-long project in which I photographed participants, painted their portraits, and wrapped up the project with a creative writing and art workshop with local Poet, Lindi Nolte.

On the right, a portrait I painted of one the participants. Below, an extract of her self-love letter:

“I’m redefining self-love to mean accepting myself as I am, flaws and all, seeing them with compassion, curiosity, love and understanding. It means figuring out how I can do better next time, not berating myself for not being good enough this time. Sometimes it means I have to be firm and hold myself accountable, because I want to live a life that aligns with my values. It means doing the uncomfortable shadow work to become my best self".
